Testing Accommodations

LSAC Policy on Accommodations for Test Takers with Disabilities

LSAC is committed to providing necessary testing accommodations for the LSAT® and LSAT Argumentative WritingSM to candidates with documented disabilities. These policies and guidelines apply to both remote and in-person testing.

Please review all information on this page, including the instructions provided at the links below. It is important to review this information carefully and check this website often for any updates.

We encourage you to submit your request and all required documentation well in advance of registration deadlines  (opens in new browser window). This may facilitate your advanced planning and preparation for the test.

Policies and Guidelines

How to Submit an Accommodations Request

Registered test takers must submit accommodation requests through JD Services. Requests are due by the accommodation request deadline associated with your test. Learn how to get started.

Accommodations That May Be Available

This page includes a non-exhaustive list of testing accommodations that can be requested for the LSAT and/or LSAT Argumentative Writing. Be sure to review the test’s specifications and the personal items allowed for all test takers too.

Documentation Requirements

Candidates must submit documentation in support of their request for testing accommodations. Requirements vary based on several factors. Review this page to learn what you’ll need to submit to support your request.

Policy on Prior Testing Accommodations

Review this policy if you’ve previously received testing accommodations on the LSAT/LSAT-Flex or another standardized postsecondary admission test (e.g., SAT, ACT, GRE).

Policy on the Use of Human Readers

Test takers who are blind or have a severe visual impairment should review this policy to learn about the procedures and policies related to using a reader on the LSAT.

Common Issues with Documentation

Review this list to learn about common reasons why documentation submitted in support of a request for accommodation(s) on the LSAT and/or LSAT Argumentative Writing may be deemed insufficient by LSAC.

Accommodation Decisions

Persons with disabilities seeking testing accommodations must submit their online request, with all supporting documentation, by the stated accommodation request deadline. Requests submitted after the accommodation request deadline  (opens in new browser window) will not be considered. If you have submitted an accommodation request for an upcoming or future administration of the LSAT, please be aware that we are reviewing requests as quickly as possible. If you are registered for a future administration, there may be a delay in the review of your request due to pending deadlines for earlier upcoming test administrations. If you have an immediate need, please call Accommodated Testing at 855.384.2253 and a customer relationship specialist will be happy to assist you.

Except as noted in the policy, candidates with a previously approved LSAT accommodation will be automatically approved to receive the same or substantially similar accommodation on future LSATs. If you have been previously approved for an LSAT accommodation, please review the Policy for Individuals Previously Approved to Receive Accommodations on the LSAT  (opens in new browser window)

Appeal Procedures

If your request is not approved in full, a letter that explains the rationale for LSAC’s decision will be posted to your JD Services account. You will have two (2) business days after this letter is posted to your online account to notify LSAC if you intend to appeal. You will have five (5) calendar days after the letter is posted to your online account to submit documentation to LSAC in support of your appeal. If you appeal, the result of the appeal will be provided within one week of the submission of the appeal, barring unforeseen circumstances.

Opting Out of Approved Accommodations

Candidates who are approved for testing accommodations also have the option not to accept any approved or automatically approved accommodations.

Additional Considerations

  • Test takers who receive accommodations on the LSAT are subject to the same policies as all other test takers, as specified in the LSAC Candidate Agreement  (opens in new browser window)

  • If you need a modification of any of the policies related to the administration of the test due to a disability, you MUST seek an accommodation prior to the accommodation request deadline  (opens in new browser window). (The accommodation request deadline is the same as the test registration deadline.)

  • LSAC reserves the right to make the final decision regarding whether to approve and how to administer testing accommodations. If your request for accommodations is denied in full or late, you will remain registered to test under standard conditions.

  • If you are approved to receive accommodations, the details of your approved accommodations will be provided directly to Prometric. It is not necessary for you to contact Prometric in advance of your LSAT appointment to confirm their receipt of your approved accommodations.
